Song of the Day : John Lennon – Imagine
John Lennon may have parted from this world 30 years ago, but his ideals, peace, and music live on. His 70th birthday is celebrated on October 9th of this year with reissues of his solo work, and Yoko Ono will relight the Imagine Peace Tower. All we are saying…
On October 5th, EMI is set to reissue re-imagined versions of Lennon’s solo albums, ranging from Plastic Ono Band to Milk and Honey. These minimalist versions will feature tracks like “Mother”, “I Found Out”, and “Every Man Has A Woman Who Loves Him”, all stripped away of their bombastic sound to reveal sentimental jewels of atmospheric sheen.
Producer Jack Douglas, who worked with Lennon and Ono on the 1980 album Double Fantasy, worked on theses new reincarnations. He says, “You feel like you’re in the presence of John interacting with Yoko and the players. It’s the same with Yoko’s songs. The dialogue between the two of them becomes even more obvious. ‘Watching the Wheels’ becomes this song with barely any accompaniment. ‘I’m Losing You’ was meant to be like this.”
With the new releases set for next month, Lennon fans can get excited for the slew of music coming their way. As if a library extension wasn’t enough, The Plastic Ono Band will be performing a tribute concert on an island off ReykjavÌk with Lennon’s son, Sean. The performance coincides with Yoko Ono igniting the Imagine Peace Tower once again.
Now if we could only afford the plane ticket to Iceland…
